St. Petersburg

In 1998, the Tolstoy Foundation established the St. Petersburg/Gagarin Fund and began approving grant applications received through the St. Petersburg office for small, local grass-roots charitable activities. The three charitable organizations that received funding during 2001 were: Diadia Leva, a center for children’s development and creativeness; Zhemchiuzhena, an NGO providing parental training and support and preventive care to parents for children from the prenatal stage to age ten; and ETO (Experimental Theatrical Society), a well-established NGO whose goal is to develop cultural and literary awareness by staging small theater productions to stimulate interest in literature. Grants were also given for project support.

TF believes that its work in St. Petersburg furthers the Foundation’s humanitarian and cultural vision by supporting the ideas, initiatives and motivation of individuals who are actively trying to bring about improvement in their local communities.
